"With 7 CMM's running 2 shifts, Bley Metrology (based in Elk Grove, a suburb of Chicago, USA) operates possibly
the largest 'dimensional inspection service' in the world. Until recently, the largest measuring envelope they had available
was 2000 x 1000 x 800 mm. Delivery of a new large capacity Bridge CMM has now increased that substantially.
Says Barry Basford (manager), we were looking for a really large capacity CMM which would open up a whole new
arena of capability for us. But it also needed to be ultra accurate, as most of the interest for an 'outside source' large
machine was from the aerospace and defense industries where extremely tight tolerances are the norm.
We had heard about Resource Engineering through the grapevine and went to see one of their machines in a working
environment. We were very impressed with the obvious degree of science and engineering that went into the design,
and the accuracy specifications were outstanding. |

The 'Resource' machine that we ordered has an envelope of 4000mm x 2500mm x 1600mm with a quoted
volumetric accuracy specification (ANSI B89.4 1) of 20 microns on a 1 meter long ball bar. However,
after final set-up and calibration, the actual volumetric performance was measured at only 12 microns worst case.
Repeatability of measurement being 2.5 microns. This is probably the most accurate CMM of this size anywhere.
